Ballet Curriculum

Ballet I

Ballet I is geared for 5 and 6 year olds new to ballet.
This class focuses on the enjoyment of movement while developing rhythm and coordination. Props such as tambourines, wands and scarves are used to bring about an awareness of musicality and dance expression by tapping into a young student's natural enthusism for dance. Age appropriate ballet steps and terminology are taught along with basic classroom etiquette and self-discipline.

Ballet II

Ballet II is for 5 and 6 year olds.
Children master technical ballet steps and terminology with a focus on establishing a solid foundation in classical ballet. Proper body placement and alignment, flexibility, music counting and dance history are introduced. Students continue to learn traditional classroom etiquette.

Ballet III

Ballet III is for 7 to 9 year olds.
Students are challenged with mastering increasingly complex steps and combinations and with improving body placement, turnout and flexibility. This class is a structured beginning ballet class with work at the barre, in the center and fast paced steps across the floor. Respect for ballet as an art form is developed by learning about ballet traditions formed over the past 400 years.

Ballet IV

This is a faster paced class for more advanced 8-12 year olds who desire to build on their Ballet III skills and be challenged with more complex steps and combinations.

Adult/Teen

BEGINNING introduces body placement, alignment and turnout along with basic ballet steps. Classes consist of barre, center floor and flexibility exercises as well as ballet terminology and traditional ballet classroom etiquette.
ADVANCED BEGINNING offers the opportunity to master those steps learned in the Adult Beginning class and to continue to learn more advanced steps. Includes more complex barre work and combinations of steps. Focus is on strengthening body placement, turnout, technique and flexibility.
